Saturday Excitement: The Illusionists: Witness the Impossible

It really has been a slow week, and a very slow month. February just seemed like it was dragging and sucking the energy out of me. Boo, Spring Assortments and them being so large! Anyway, another reason this week has gone by super slow is because I am super excited for tomorrow’s adventure!

The other half and I are going to see The Illusionists tomorrow! The illusionists combines 7 of the world’s best magicians from around the world for an exciting and imaginative show.

Here is the promotional trailer for the show 😀

I will share some snap shots and thoughts tomorrow on the show.

Live Action Anime Adaptations: Yay or Nay?

Over the weekend, my other half and I drove about an hour and a half to see the The Last: Naruto the movie. On the ride home, after speaking about how we loved the movie, we got into the good old live action adaptation discussion.

I for one, find live action to be entertaining and interesting. I mean, nothing is ever as good as the source. But live actions can just be good in its on way.

My First Live Action Series was Ouran High School Host Club, which I have read the manga and watched the anime. It was different but also very entertaining 😀

I also watched Great Teacher Onizuka 2014 and Gokusen, however I have yet to read the original manga versions 😦

I really liked all these shows, I always seemed to be watching them on my train rides to NYC… I always got those “what the heck is she smiling at” stares.

Any who, the next live action adaptation I am going to watch is Rurouni Kenshin. I love the anime and I have read really good Reviews! I am very excited and will update with my thoughts 😀

Kenshin

So are live actions a yay or nay and why?

Cosplay Breastplate to Keep the Nip Slip Under Wraps.

Update: Tumblr User Technoranma or as her cosplay alias Quantum Destiny shared her tutorial for creating a larger than life cosplay chest. While I love the simple and easy tutorial by Twitter user Namechiru, Technoranma’s tutorial is much more realistic. Her techniques on how she texturizes and air brushes the chest piece to match her skin tone is genius and something I wondered about, not everyone can find fabric that matches their skin tone.
You can check out her amazing Tutorial Here. Cosplay Chest Plate Tutorial

If one of your biggest fears with the ahem “sexier” cosplay outfits is a nip slip or the fact that many leading ladies have very generous cleavage and little to no clothing, here is an awesome product for you.

Twitter user Namechiru created this interesting cosplay accessory.

These fake tatas actually make sense to me for cosplay purposes.
Instead of freezing and worrying about flashing some people 😀
Your tatas are safely tucked away and warm.
Which in my mind gives you more freedom for your more sexier cosplays.

Like for example using this clever design for the ever so popular Kill La Kill cosplay

These wonders are made of cloth. The straps loop behind the neck and back.
I believe it is like a high neck sports bra. Namechiru estimates that the cup size is between an E or G.
That is some cleavage!

It seems she made only a limited number of these, but here is her D.I.Y. on how make these buxom wonders 😀  —> Let’s Make Boobs

An Animal Eared Bowler Hat D.I.Y.

So last year, one of my friends and I talked about a character lolita idea featuring our favorite 100 acre wood friends. I would take on the project of mr. winnie the pooh himself, and she would undertake Piglet, in a classic lolita way.

One of my biggest ideas was creating a hat with pooh bear’s ears. I figured, it wouldn’t be hard, but still to the internet I went. I discovered this great D.I.Y from blogger Ally at Now That’s Pretty.

Cardcaptor Sakura Cosplay

So I wanted to share my Cardcaptor Sakura: The Sealed Card cosplay. It was my first major undertaking in creating a cosplay from scratch.  This gown was a huge learning curve in pattern alterations and sewing.

In my eyes, it’s not perfect and I am working on fixing the gown and redoing the star wand.  I apologize, I don’t have many photos of this costume. But I will probably be doing a photo shoot in the near future with it, once I fix it up.

Here are some shots 😀

The Accessories I made included: Kero, The Nothing & Hope Card, The Star Wand (The Wings Broke) and Sakura’s Egg Backpack

I am so thankful I had my styling kit with me! I used double-sided fashion tape for the ribbons to keep them in the place, and I wore stockings which helped create a good base for the tape. I think the most challenging part of the entire costume was getting the shape of the skirt and the neckline was a definite trial and error.

One Problem:  My darling Fiance stepped on the back of my gown and the zipper split up the back. Once again thank goodness for my kit and quilters safety pins and for the fact it happened towards the end of the day! In the images above there is a shot from the back, you can see the pins holding it together. I was also grateful that the backpack hid the rip!

All in all it was really fun and a lot of people enjoyed my costume which I was super excited for!

I will share updates later once I get this fixed up 😀

Current Cosplay Undertaking: Morgana Pendragon

An Update 😀 —> Morgana Cosplay

Since my last cosplay undertaking was one hell of a project, (Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie 2, The Gown she wore during the play), I decided to try something a little different. My current cosplay undertaking is Morgana Pendragon from BBC’s Merlin.

I am doing her 3rd season look.

Merlin401

I am a bit OCD and detail oriented, blame it on my profession. I like to reproduce the look to a T. Don’t get me wrong, I love to add my own personality into some cosplays. But I find it fun and a bit of a challenge to duplicate a look.

For Morgana’s dress I really wanted to get the look right and on a day I was looking for fabric for work (yeah, you really do find things when you are so not trying!) I stumbled upon this wonderful find for the outer layer.

20150120_221607_zpsaff18fd5

It is as close as I am going to get! I still need to buy the green fabric for the under dress, but that is a lot easier find than spider web lace.

Now that I have the fabric, I needed a pattern  With my Sakura Cosplay I had to alter the pattern a lot, so I wasn’t very worried. I just wanted a close enough pattern with the parts I needed. I found this pattern at my local Joann’s Fabric Store

Morganacos1

I customized the pattern by adding length and a train, I split the bodice from the skirt. I cut the skirt in 6 pieces instead of two for the added seams, that I need for the look and I attached the sleeve pieces to make one continuous sleeve.

My Progress

I cut the pattern and it is currently half pinned to my mannequin. I ran into trouble sewing the lace… I need a sheer nude organza base. I was trying to stitch it and it just kept getting stuck in the machine… so yeah organza base. Thank you again to the awesome cosplay.com cosplayers who helped me!

So here is where I leave off, I will update as soon as I start back up. Work has been busy, woo hoo shooting Spring Assortments when it is 10 degrees out! Talk about disappointing when I walk outside after shooting shorts and tanks!

Her Universe: A Geek Couture Fashion Show

While I love everyday fashion, geek fashion is really a way to escape the reality of the runway trends and fads. I also love the idea of this fashion show! It really is an out of the box concept in design and fashion. I know this post is about 5 months late on this, but I felt like I needed to bring it up because it just so amazing.

This is a project I would love to work on! As a geek and a fashion stylist it is my kinda thing! While, I wouldn’t design or make a dress (really the pressure would kill me). But I would love to work behind the scenes at a fashion show like this or for a company like Her Universe 😀

Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon Re-Drawn Together

On shoot days, when my models are getting prepped and even more gorgeous in Hair & Makeup and my assistant and I have everything ready to go for the day and I don’t think I could look at another trend site or fashion blog I check out some of my favorite nerdy blogs and sites. One of my favorite sites for Japanese news is Rocketnews.

Rocketnews contains news from all over Asia, The US and the Internet. If you have some free time or want to liven up your day I would head on over and check it out. When I have a bad day this site definitely helps, and sometimes I even get some interesting topics for shoot days. Gotta keep the energy up 😀

Anywho, my favorite post this week takes me back to childhood and the beginning of my love for anime and Manga. My two first animes have been re-drawn together in this amazing artwork.

Check it out the rest here —> Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon Together

Enjoy!
